Updating Your Kitchen With New Flooring And Cabinets

Home & Garden Blog

The kitchen is one of the most used rooms in your home. You cook in it, clean up after meals in it, and even socialize in it. It is also one of the last to get updated or remodeled because it is a lot of work. But it doesn't have to be a chore if you plan ahead.

Hiring a Contractor

If you are going to do a complete remodel of your kitchen, you may want to hire a contractor to come in and do the work. The contractor and his crew will be able to remove the old cabinets, flooring, and countertops quickly. They can do it much faster than the average homeowner because they have the right tools for the job and the workforce to put on the work.

Floors First

Once the kitchen has been stripped, the contractor will start by replacing the floor with whatever flooring you chose. A beautiful floating laminate is a good option because it is durable and easy to clean. The flooring is put down on the entire floor with nothing else in the room so that there are minimal cuts to the material. This will make the floor stronger and more resistant to water or other liquids spill on it. There are a lot of styles and colors to choose from so before the work starts, take a trip to the home center or building supply to pick out the one you like best.

Painting the Room

Once the floor is in, the contractor will cover it with paper to keep it from getting damaged then they will prep the walls for paint. Filling holes, sanding rough spots, and priming the walls if they need it, will get them ready for the new paint color you picked. Typically, all the painting is completed then, and new light fixtures or accessories can be installed on the wall or ceiling. If you have multiple paint colors going in your new kitchen, the painting can take a little longer because the first color needs to be dry before the accent wall can be masked and painted.

Installing Cabinets

Whether you have custom Kraftmaid cabinets installed in your new kitchen or buy some that are all ready to be installed, they are typically the last thing put into the room. The cabinets can be positioned and the sink, fixtures, and countertops installed. Once all the new cabinets are in place, the appliances are reinstalled in the room, and the paper is removed from the floor. The entire process can take a few days to a few weeks depending on the amount of work required, but the result is a kitchen you can be proud of.

Hello, my name is Marion Bates and I also used to have a lot of useless stuff piled up around the house. One day I decided that I was going to get rid of everything that I didn't use. Before I began decluttering my home, I read several books so that I could have a plan and a goal when I started to declutter. I also learned why some people insist on cluttering up their home and how they can clean it all out with no regrets. Now that my house is free of clutter, it looks very clean and I'm not embarrassed to have guests over. If you need to get rid of the clutter in your house, please read my blog.
